Sunday 2 September

Chaddesley Corbett    1    Phoenix    2

New manager, Glen Beaman must have been encouraged by what he saw today in a game that the scoreline did not reflect the dominance of the visitors.

Phoenix started off on fire and immediately took a grip of the game. The midfield and were playing at a high tempo and the forward partnership of Ryan Rowe and Tom Bates were linking up very well.

Ryan Rowe created the first chance, cutting in from the right side of the area but firing narrowly wide. More chances came with Ricky Sanders, Ryan Rowe, Neal Bennett and Tom Bates all going close when they maybe should have done better.

Chaddesley were defending desperately for the first half an hour with Phoenix keeper Wayne Lancett virtually a spectator, but no matter how much pressure the visitors exerted the goal would not come. Stuart Brogan was unlucky when a corner evaded the keeper but he was unable to connect at close range.

The first goal eventually arrived and it was probably the most difficult chance of the half, with TOM BATES firing into the bottom corner from wide.

Half Time  0-1

Chaddesley caught Phoenix off guard at the beginning of the 2nd half when the visitors failed to clear a corner and MATT FLUDGATE volleyed home from close range.

The game was far more even with Chaddesley making use of the wind to clear their lines, but both defences were holding firm.

Phoenix regained the lead when the Chaddesley keeper was unable to hold on to a Ryan Rowe shot and TOM BATES was on hand to finish from close range.

Ryan Rowe could have made the game safe but his shot was cleared off the line before Chaddesley had the last chance of the game, as a long ball was reached but put wide by the home side's winger.
